Robert Polgar is an experienced Photographer, Film & T.V. Producer, Director and Sr. Production Executive who has worked in many forms of media, advertising and film-making. Over the last couple of years, when not shooting commercials locally, he’s found himself all over Europe, Mongolia, Japan and Korea where he was producing, filming and directing documentaries for such clients as Billboard Music and various Cable Networks.
Prior to that he was a Development and Production executive at Capitol Films / ThinkFilm, a large independent film production studio and film library where he helped manage physical production for large-scale theatrically released films. During his tenure there he worked actively on such projects as, “Nailed” and “Father of Invention”. This followed more than five years running Roger Corman’s Bay City Productions entity where helped develop and produce numerous films such as “Crashpoint” for Sony Pictures, and “Supergator” for the SyFy Channel.
Along with having been involved in consistent on-set physical production, Mr. Polgar actively presided over three entities under the New Horizons and Bay City Productions umbrella including: Advanced Media Studios, a feature-film post-production company, Apple Valley Entertainment, a low-budget shingle, and Digital Entertainment, a production entity centered around cable-programming for HBO and Showtime.
His involvement in the aforementioned companies acquainted Mr. Polgar with every facet of film-making from hands-on screenwriting and development through personally designing the marketing materials and negotiating distribution contracts. He has a well-earned reputation for having an in-depth understanding of everyone’s jobs on a film set that garners the respect of all those whom work with him.
After early stints on the television show, “Friends”, International Creative Management (ICM) and A&M Records in Artist Relations, Mr. Polgar began his career with producer Joel Silver having worked on such noted films as, “The Matrix”, “Lethal Weapon 4”, “Romeo Must Die”, “House on Haunted Hill”, “Made Men” and the T.V. series, “Tales from the Crypt”, “The Strip” and “Action!”.
Mr. Polgar then brought his skill, insight, and innovative approaches as a creative executive and business consultant to a wide variety of fields – including advertising and new media design, working in the creative department in the EURO RSCG network of agencies on campaigns such as Evian, Volvo, MCI, and JCrew and having run Blue Cat Creative, a design firm that specialized in interactive television and museum installations. This design sensibility manifested also in doing visual effects work for Dreamworks, SKG on the television show, “The Others”.
Concurrently during this period in his career, Mr. Polgar worked as a creative executive and consultant with a media-oriented venture capital and consulting firm run by Ryan Kavanaugh which was the precursor to Relativity Pictures. Mr. Polgar took an active role there developing identity and branding campaigns for entertainment related start-ups. Additionally, he conducted hands-on design work on interactive television systems for such companies as Zenith and Panasonic and helped procure early properties for development.
During this time, Mr. Polgar also donated his time designing promotional materials for non-profit organizations that work with the environment and human rights such as Sierra Club and Medicins sans Frontiers. Recently, Mr. Polgar has shot public service announcements for the Human Rights Organization for a free Burma. He lends and donates his photography to numerous charitable endeavors.
Mr. Polgar graduated from the University of Southern California having studied film and international relations. He also conducted graduate level studies in film at USC focusing on production finance and cinematography. In his never-ending quest for knowledge, Mr. Polgar received additional education from Parsons School of Design, the School of Visual Arts, Berklee College of Music and Concord Law School. Mr. Polgar enjoys travel and playing guitar. His photography has been featured in numerous fashion and trade magazines, on billboards and in various gallery showings.
